Warendorf State Stud

Deutschland

The Warendorf State Stud looks back on almost 200 years of tradition in horse breeding. It was founded in 1826 at the request of breeders in Westphalia and the Rhine Province. After the end of the war, it became the property of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is now part of the Ministry for the Environment, Agriculture, Nature Conservation and Consumer Protection of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

With currently 65 employees and 22 training places, it is now one of the largest state stud farms in Europe. Its stallion stock includes around 85 breeding stallions, including around 24 stallions of the Rhenish-German cold blood breed.

In total, the state stud offers space for 120 horses on its eight-hectare site. The breeding season lasts from February to August. During this time, some of the stallions are kept at the 18 breeding and insemination stations in Westphalia and the Rhineland. Customers also include breeders from other parts of Germany, from all over Europe, the USA and Australia.
